A. Dvorak: Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat major, Op. 87, Baranov, Bachmann, Gaillard, Staub
Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat major, Op. 87 I. Allegro con fuoco 00:05 II. Lento 8:55 III. Allegro moderato, Grazioso 19:54 IV. Finale. Allegro, ma non troppo 27:47 Violin – Andrey Baranov Viola – Darryl Bachmann Cello – Ophélie Gaillard Piano – Martin Lucas Staub Dvorák’s Piano Quartet in E flat major, though composed at the height of his artistic maturity, is to date unjustly overshadowed by his more popular works. Dvorak was finally goaded into writing the piece after his publisher Simrock had spent a long time trying to persuade him to do so, reminding him in letters on several occasions: “I should like to receive a piano quartet from you at last – you promised me this a long time ago! Well? How is it faring?” The quartet was written in the summer months of 1889 at Dvorak’s country residence in Vysoka. Allegro Recorded in June 2021 at the "Schubertiades de Thônex" Audio Engineer and Video : Eliyah Reichen - Beyond Groove Productions Mieczysław Weinberg was a Polish-born composer, born in 1919, in Warsaw, Poland. He fled to the Soviet Union in 1939 to escape the Nazis during World War II. In the USSR, Weinberg became close friends with Dmitri Shostakovich, who supported and influenced his music. His music combines deep emotion, folk influences, and powerful expressions of trauma and resilience. Despite political challenges and a period of imprisonment in 1953, he continued to compose throughout his life. His work was underappreciated during his lifetime but has gained significant recognition in recent years.
